There are three main factors that could cause a person to be more likely to develop varicose veins in their hands. The first is gender; women are more likely to develop varicose veins because most of their blood flow is concentrated in the center of their bodies and not as much reaches their extremities. The second is weight; those who are overweight have reduced blood flow because of their increased body mass. The last is age; older people's veins are less elastic than those who are younger, causing their circulation to be poor. If you have any of these possible factors, then you might want to consider doing these hand exercises in order to increase your overall circulation and decrease the chances that you will develop varicose veins in your hands.
1. Finger Stretch
Make a fist with one hand. Then, use your other hand to draw each finger back one by one, stretching it slightly farther than is comfortable in order to get the blood flowing. Once you have stretched out each of your fingers, make a fist again and then open your hand and stretch out all of your fingers at once. Do this a few times. Once your hand is in its last open position, use your other hand to bend each finger slightly back. Do it with the other hand. This will allow you to make sure that the blood flows all the way to the tips of the fingers and that there is no increased pressure in the veins, causing them to bulge out.
2. Wrist Stretch
Next, you are going to want to stretch out your wrist. Place your hands so that your palms are touching and your fingers are lined up. Move your hands so that they are parallel with your body and perpendicular with the floor. Then, move your hands in this position down towards the floor. Move as far as you can go comfortably, take a deep breath, and then move a little bit farther down. This will stretch out your wrists and ensure that the blood flow in and out of the hands is not impeded at any point.
3. Hand Massage
Finally, take your one hand and use it to massage your wrist and hand on the other side of your body. This will allow you to get rid of any blood that might have collected in one area and disperse it.
